Halloween is over, Samhain has passed and the days when goblins and ghouls could live in harmonious play with the living are gone until next year. The leave are changing from red and gold to brown, falling from the trees to be buried in snow. Halloween has come and gone, the season of Thanksgiving, of Christmas, of Hannukah, of the Yuletide is upon us. A season of gift giving and family, of charity and celebration. But wait, dear somber reader, who longs for the days of Jack-O-Lanterns and lovingly distressed tombstones. The Season of the Witch has only just begun! You are cordially invited, all you spooks, creatures, beloved dead, to the Addams Family home for holiday festivities. Neighbors, friends, family, friends of the family and yes, even you, hapless bystander who somehow found their way onto the premises. You are all welcome to celebrate the longer night and darker day. There is no rest for the wicked, after all. Allow Lurch to take your coat, let Thing pour you a drink and may the old spirits bless this hearth. We are all Addamses here. Perhaps you're an invited guest, whose invitation came by phone or post, owl or incantation. You're family, old friends and new, friends of friends and family of family. Maybe you simply knocked on the wrong door, or were caught with a flat? (Well, how 'bout that?) All are welcome in the Addams abode, for this festive and chilling time of year. Dance to the music playing and echoing, waking the bats in the belfry. Bob for crabs, drink and be merry! And don't you worry about your children, they're welcome too! Little Wednesday and Pugsly are happy to keep the young ones company. More the merrier for the traditional children's burning of the Yule Log (in memory of all those great logs of days past, present and future who has seen some things in their time and had something to say about it). Welcome, and happy Extended Halloween!

[ You won’t find Ruvik in the middle of the building. Or talking with any of the other Invited guests. He’ll only be standing under one of the dark spots in the room where poor lighting could obstruct his appearance. In his hand he holds a glass; three quarters full of red Pinot. He doesn’t drink much. His taste for the finer vices in life had lost all temptation. His eyes were always watching, and instead he prefers to observe the party and its goers in silence. He’d never been one to play conversationalist.

He is near Lindsay when the package is placed on a table. Covered in the gloomy and expressive moods of all Hallow’s Eve, Ruvik feels himself suddenly drawn into what is really hidden underneath the decorated paper; an important and potentially powerful book.
